Frederick T. Franz, 87, of Piqua, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at 5:07 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Koester Pavilion from complications with Covid. He was born April 27, 1935 in Piqua to the late Joseph and Ruth (Stahl) Franz. He married Jean Adkins March 30, 1957 in Richmond, Indiana; and she survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Freddie (Mary) Franz, Kenneth A. Franz, Mark J. Franz, all of Piqua; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Michael Franz.
Mr. Franz attended Piqua Central High School and left early to join the United States Marine Corps where he finished his education. He served proudly from 1953 to 1956 during the Korean War. He worked for ten years at the Piqua Daily Call before he became a firefighter with the Piqua Fire Department for twenty-five years before he retired. He was an extremely active member of the American Legion Post #184 as well as the 40&8. He enjoyed model trains, woodworking, and restoring classic cars. He was also a lover of music and enjoyed listening to 60s music, as well as the Eagles and Eric Clapton.
A gathering of family and friends to honor his life will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 18, 2022 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Piqua Ambulance Fund P.O. Box 720 Piqua, OH 45356.
