Elsie Violet "Vi" Das, 96, of Piqua, passed away at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Brookdale Assisted Living of Piqua. She was born November 4, 1927 in England to the late Eli and Jane Ann (Jones) Harrison. She married Dr. Ramen K. Das June 21, 1952 in England, he preceded her in death December 10, 2005. Additionally, she was preceded in death by their daughter, Ann Mira Das in 1976.
Vi attended and earned her Nursing Degree in England having graduated from St. Hilary Preparatory School and Macclesfield High School for Girls.
She was a vital member in the Piqua area community having founded the local Meals on Wheels program, the Candy Stripers of the Piqua Memorial Hospital, and the Junior Red Cross. She was an active member of the Columbian Club, Fortnightly Club, Salvation Army and St. James Episcopal Church where she was a long time member and established its Food Pantry, its community Clothing Bank, and Parish Supply room to provided baby items for impoverished mothers. The Episcopal Church community designated Vi into the prestigious Society of St. Simeon and St. Anna. Additionally, the Piqua Community awarded her the coveted Order of George Award and the Salvation Army bestowed her with its highest honor, the William Booth Award. She is survived by some of her many friends, including Judy Kenton of Greenville who was a gracious faithful caregiver and friend.
A service to honor her life will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at St. James Episcopal Church with Rev. Fr. Robert Hill as the Celebrant. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. James Episcopal Church, 200 W. High St. Piqua, OH 45356. Arrangements are being handled through the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home.
