Ellen Reed Phillips, 83, of Piqua, passed away September 4, 2023 in the comfort of her home. She was bon April 11, 1940 in Piqua to the late Walter and Esther (Brown) Reed. She married John William Phillips in 1959 and he preceded her in death in 1988. Ellen and John had three sons, Alan Scott, Lincoln Andrew, and Daniel Curtis. Daniel and his wife Shirlie had three children, and Jessica Lynn and Mitchell Scott are still living. Their son Curtis Matthew has passed. Her sister Caroline married Bruce Amundson and has preceded her in death. Her sister Melissa C. Reed survives.
Ellen was well educated and graduated from Wiley High School in Terra Haute, Indiana in 1958. She went on to earn her Bachelors Degree from Indiana State University in 1962. She worked as a teacher, a missionary, a clerk typist for the State of Indiana, as well as various other positions. She was a past member of Greene Street United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling and earned the nickname “Gypsy” by some. She loved to work outside, play the piano, play golf and enjoyed her involvement as an actor in various theater groups. Her favorite pastime was studying her Bible. She was a very special individual and will be deeply missed.
A private service to honor her life will be held at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are being provided to her family through the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one’s favorite charity in Ellen’s name.
