Dr. David Dillon Gallagher, 73, of Columbus, Indiana, passed away on January 20, 2025, at his residence in Columbus. The cause of death was heart disease and complications from prostate cancer. Dr. Gallagher was born on January 2, 1952 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Dr. John William Gallagher and Mary (Dillon) Gallagher, who were both longtime residents of Piqua, Ohio.
Survivors include his former wife, Carole, daughter, Bryn and sons, Pat and Drew, five grandchildren, brother, John and sister, Kathie. Dr. Gallagher was preceded in death by his parents.
Dr. Gallagher attended Piqua city schools and graduated from Piqua Central High School in 1970. He attended the University of Michigan on a football scholarship and was a consensus College All American in 1973. He had planned to attend medical school, but decided to forgo that to play professional football. He later finished medical school at the University of Michigan as an orthopedic surgeon and practiced medicine in Ann Arbor, Michigan and, for many years, in Columbus, Indiana.
A graveside service to honor his life will begin at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at Forest Hill Cemetery. In memory of Dr. Gallagher, memorial contributions may be given to C.A.R.E.
