Dorothy M. Galligan, 100, of Piqua, passed away peacefully at 2:15 p.m. Sunday, August 3, 2025. She was born January 18, 1925 in Piqua to the late William and Helen (Fuller) Stahl. She married Joseph L. Galligan April 17, 1948 in Piqua; and he preceded her in death May 2, 1997.
Survivors include three daughters, Janet (Mark) Dent of Logan, Connie Martin of Piqua, Karen Galligan of Piqua; four grandchildren, Melinda (Jason Shea) Akins, Brian Emrick, John (Tawnya) Emrick, Matthew (Katie Whitsett) Eisenzimmer; eight great grandchildren; ten great great grandchildren; and two sisters, Patsy Williams of Phoenix, Arizona, Helen “Joan” Lange of Piqua. She was preceded in death by six brothers, William, Robert, James, Donald, Larry, Earnest; a sister, Evelyn Riesenbeck; and two grandsons, Joseph Akins, and Jason Martin.
Mrs. Galligan was a 1942 graduate of Piqua Central High School. She worked for G.C. Murphy Co. for over 25 years. She then went to work for the former Zimmerman’s Jewelry Store for six years before she retired. She loved to spend time walking, shopping, and gardening. She was extremely smart and enjoyed keeping her mind sharp while playing crossword puzzles and word searches. She was known in her family as the “Financial Officer” because her math skills were second to none and could compute faster than a calculator. She did not like to drive but walked from Shawnee to the Piqua Airport for her flying lessons. She was very giving of her time, talents and finances and donated to various causes over the years. Additionally, she always had an open door policy in her home, and always had her cookie jar full for any and all visitors. She also NEVER missed a birthday of her loved ones, and would always have a card sent, every single year. She was the true definition of a Family Matriarch and carried herself with poise, grace, and kindness. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and many friends.
A service to honor her life will begin at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 7, 2025 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Keith Gebhart officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 1 St. Jude Plaza, Memphis, TN 38105.
