DORA JANE TOOPES

Dora Jane Toopes, 79, of Piqua, passed away at 5:10 p.m. on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 14, 2023 at Versailles Health Care. She was born on Mother’s Day May 14, 1944 in Piqua to the late Earl and Kathryn (Sullenberger) Koon.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen (Scott) Osborne of Celina; three sons, Pat (April) Toopes, Brian (Kelly) Toopes, Mike (Jody) Toopes all of Piqua; seven grandchildren, Brock, Jarrett, Owen, Grant, Brennan, Reagan, Samantha; a sister, June Fisher of Covington; and three brothers, Bill (Jan) Koon of St. Marys, Jack Koon of Minster, Joe (Charlotte) Koon of Miami, Florida. She was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel Koon; a brother-in-law, Chalmer Fisher; and two nephews, Kris Koon and Doug Baker

Dora was a 1963 graduate of Piqua Catholic High School and was a wonderful homemaker and devoted mother. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church where she was active with the St. Claire’s Society. She was never one to sit and rest, she enjoyed being on the go and volunteering to be of help, whether it was in the school cafeteria, a classroom mother, working and helping chair the parish festivals, or driving those that needed a ride to and from the store and doctor’s appointments. She will be remembered for her devotion to her church and her family, specifically to her grandchildren, whom she loved deeply.                           .

A service to honor her life will begin at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 19, 2023 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Eric Bowman officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface Catholic Church, 310 S.
