Obituary

Dixie C. Putnam, of Piqua, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at the age of 84, after a short stay at Ayden Healthcare in Piqua. Dixie was born in Greenfield, Ohio to the late Bertyl Wallace and Thelma (Crago) Wallace.  Both parents, and a step-father, Emerson Putnam preceded her in death.

Dixie spent her early years in Bradford, Ohio; then transferred to Piqua City Schools in middle school and graduated from Piqua Central High School in 1956. She married Owen F. Putnam Jr. on June 23, 1956 in the Madison Avenue First Church of God and was married to him for 49 years until his death on April 22, 2005.

Dixie is survived by three children, Doak (Teresa) Putnam of Piqua, Delores (Jon) Ashworth of Worthington, and Deborah Wilson of Piqua.  She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jeffrey Wilson of Monroe, North Carolina.  Eight Grandchildren: Stevie Putnam, Burt (Summer) Putnam, Alexis (Christopher) Day, and Jerry Sanders of Piqua; Grace Sanders of North Carolina; and Matthew, Nicholas and Jacob Ashworth all of Worthington.  Four step grandchildren, two of whom preceded her in death; and six great grandchildren. Dixie is also survived by two brothers, Ray (Charlotte) Putnam of Piqua and Ronald (Jane) Putnam of Radford, Virginia; many nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by a brother Richard Putnam; her mother and step-father in-law, Martha and Charles Potter, and many beloved brother and sister-in-laws.

Dixie was a member of the former Evangelical United Methodist church in Piqua, and enjoyed teaching Sunday school. She was a Camp Fire Girl Scout Leader.  Dixie was a long time office employee of Miller Meteor in Piqua, and when that company relocated she went to work for Hobart P.M.I. in Troy where she worked in the offices for more than twenty years until her retirement.  Dixie attended Edison State Community College.  Most recently, Dixie was an active member of the Madison Avenue First Church of God, where she enjoyed the Women’s Prayer Group weekly meetings, and sending Get Well and Thinking of You cards to members of the church family.  Dixie enjoyed spending time and eating out with her late life companion, Ron Easton of Piqua, who passed away last year; and until recently, enjoyed staying active with her YWCA walking buddies.

A funeral service to honor her life will begin at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2023 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Stremmel officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Piqua Education Foundation, P.O.
