Deloris D. Tilton, 93, of Piqua, passed away at 6:58 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2023 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family. She was born December 15, 1929 in Benbush, West Virginia to the late Luther and Dora (Nestor) Cross. She married Gene W. Tilton, Sr. March 18, 1950 in Richmond, Indiana and he preceded her in death March 1, 1995.
Survivors include three children, Gene W. (Diana) Tilton Jr. of Piqua, Patti (Howard) Fisher of Troy, and Susan Tilton of Piqua; seven grandchildren, Amy Stambaugh, Tinika Tilton, Matt Tilton, Kari (Josh) Beeman, Rick, Don, and Sherry Powell; 21 great grandchildren; 22 great great grandchildren; two sisters, Grace Polhemus and Karen (Roger) Braner; her brother in law, James Markley; also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her grandson, Jeremy Tilton; her great great grandson, Kyro Tilton; and seven siblings, Ray, Gene, and Charles Cross, Vida Mae (Bill) Thomasson, Wanda Whitehair, Judith Cottrell, and Lillian Markley.
Deloris was a graduate of Parsons High School Class of 1948. She was a longtime, faithful member of the Piqua Church of the Nazarene. Deloris worked as a press operator at Sonoco Products and retired in 1992 after many years of hard work and dedication. She was the President of Local Union 196 UPPIU for 18 years and worked as an officer for the union for 29 years while at Sonoco. Deloris also received her LPN certification and worked at Piqua Memorial Hospital for a time. She was a part of the former Women of the Moose Lodge 1067 in Piqua for many years. Deloris enjoyed following NASCAR and Jeff Gordon, the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals, doing word searches and puzzles and going for walks around the neighborhood. Most of all, Deloris loved to spend time watching the grandbabies and great grandbabies and spending time with her whole family.
A service to honor her life will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Lincoln Robinson officiating. Burial will follow the service at Miami Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 also at the funeral home.
