David L. Halteman, 87, of Piqua, more recently of Columbus, passed away at 12:35 p.m. Sunday, August 28, 2022 at the Kobacker House. He was born January 24, 1935 in Dayton to the late Frederick C. and Virginia (Lane) Halteman. He married Marilyn J. Kitchen June 23, 1962, a union that would span 60 years, and she survives.
Other survivors include three children, Becky Halteman of Westerville, Mike (Janis) Halteman of Columbus, Susan (Gerald) Wilker of Commerce, Michigan; five grandchildren, Tyler Harris, Mason Harris, Avery Halteman, Sophia Wilker, Sydney Wilker; and two brothers, John (Marsha) Halteman of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Steve (Chery) Halteman of Vandalia. He was preceded in death by one sister, Susan Halteman.
Mr. Halteman was a 1953 graduate of Tipp City High School and attended Denison University before graduating from the University of Dayton in 1958. He was a long time member of St. Paul Evangelical & Reformed Church. He worked as a real estate appraiser for Gem Savings Association for thirty-three years before beginning his own venture in 1990 and opening Halteman Appraisal Services which he continued for over seventeen years before his retirement. He was an honest and ethical businessman who loved his profession and the clients he served. He was a member of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers where he served as a past President. He loved country living and being outdoors, especially the years he spent on Lake Erie where he enjoyed boating and sailing. He looked forward to the family vacation every year at Ruggles Beach on the lake. Most importantly, he was dedicated to his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and many friends.
A service to honor his life will begin at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 8, 2022 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Keith A. Gebhart officiating. Burial will follow at Dayton Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 11:00-1:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
