Darlene I. Montgomery, 85, of Piqua, passed away peacefully at 6:55 p.m. Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Hospice of Miami County. She was born October 30, 1938 in Antwerp, Ohio to the late Harold and Lucille (Matzen) Mumy. She married Robert H. Montgomery December 30, 1956 in North Baltimore, Ohio; a union that would span 67 years, and he survives.
Other survivors include five children, Steve (Karen) Montgomery of Gilbert, Arizona, Lucinda (John) Black of Troy, Linda (Greg) Peltier Monte of Piqua, Lisa (Bryan) Magoto of Piqua, Lori Brautigam of Russell’s Point; sixteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and a brother, Danny Mumy of Temecula, California. She was preceded in death by a brother, David Mumy; and two sons-in-law, Joe Brautigam, and James Peltier.
Mrs. Montgomery was a 1956 graduate of North Baltimore High School. She worked for the Piqua City Schools as a school bus driver for over 19 years before her retirement. She was a member of The Valley Church in Piqua. She was a past member of the Sheepskin Community Club as well as the Red Hats Society. In her younger years she was active as a 4-H advisor in Saint Paris. She enjoyed swimming as well as her role as a lifeguard and swimming instructor. She enjoyed keeping her hands active and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, canning, cooking and baking. Additionally, she loved to travel with her husband in their RV where they spent the last 30 years traveling to every corner of North America together. Most importantly, she adored her family and always kept them as her main priority. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be deeply missed.
A service to honor her life will begin at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at The Valley Church, Piqua with Pastor Ryan Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Quincy. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home.
