CONSTANCE "CONNIE" McKALE Obituary

Constance A. "Connie" McKale, 88, of Kettering, passed away at 11:52 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Miami Valley Hospital. She was born April 12, 1936 in Piqua to the late Erwin J. and Agnes (Hirschbolz) McKale.

Connie is survived by her sister, Kay Vagedes of Troy, and her brother, Michael McKale of Duncansville, Pennsylvania; five nieces, Jennifer (Al) Decker, Michele (Todd) Oaks, Jeanne (Mark) Conrad, Kathleen (Jeff) Hosner, and Theresa (Chris) Felkel; two nephews, Craig (Paige) Vagedes, and James (Lisa) McKale; also other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother and sister in law, James and Patricia McKale; and her brother in law, Ernie Vagedes.

Connie was a graduate of Piqua Catholic High School, Class of 1954. She went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude from the University of Dayton and a degree in counseling from Wright State University. Connie grew up a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, but more recently was a member of St. Albert in Kettering. Music played a very large role in Connie's life, beginning with playing the organ at St. Mary during her high school years. She worked her whole professional life as a music teacher beginning in Dayton, and then for 33 years in Kettering. She mainly played the organ and the French Horn. When she attended the University of Dayton, girls were not allowed on campus and she was a member of the Co-Ed Marching Band Club there. She had a passion for volunteering and giving her time to multiple organizations that furthered the arts, including the Schuster Center, the Victoria Theatre, and the Dayton Art Institute. She also was the Regional Director for Girl Scouts in Dayton and assisted with the Mariner's Girl Scouts as well. She also helped to organize the Dayton Folk Festival held annually and enjoyed that event. Connie was very proud of her Irish heritage, and cherished the trip she took to Ireland with her family. In honor of Connie's love for her Irish roots, the family requests visitors to wear appropriate green attire to her visitation.
