CHRISTENA HIEGEL Obituary

Christena L. Hiegel, 64, of Piqua, passed away unexpectedly at 12:21 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2025 at Miami Valley Hospital. She was born January 1, 1961 in Sidney to the late Thomas D. and Sarah K. (Sexauer) Hussey. She married Thomas A. Hiegel November 17, 1979 in Piqua and he survives.

Chris is also survived by her son and daughter in law, Travis (Andrea) Hiegel of Atwater, her granddaughter, Alice Dietrich; two sisters, Alisa (David Jenkinson) Meyer of Skull Valley, Utah, and Kathleen (Michael) Smith of New Knoxville; four nephews, Isaiah and Simon Smith, Dustin (Amy) Meyer, and Levi (Erica) Meyer; and one niece, Ila (Bryck) Rhodes; also many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tracy Hiegel; and her nephew, Wesley Meyer.

Chris was a graduate of Houston High School and the Upper Valley JVS, Class of 1979. Chris was a cheerleader and Majorette at Houston, and growing up a farm girl she loved horseback riding, and she was heavily involved with the 4-H club, the Future Farmers of America and the Future Homemakers of America and held various leadership roles with each group. She was a faithful member of Houston Congregational Christian Church. Chris loved keeping a garden and loved flowers, she worked as a floral designer at numerous shops over the years. Chris enjoyed traveling to various flower festivals, but especially enjoyed the lavender festival in Michigan. In her free time, she enjoyed going on nature walks and going to Christian concerts. Chris was a member of the Greater Sidney Area Emmaus Community and was involved with the Breakfast Club at Houston High School. She was a perfectionist in every aspect of her life, and was not content until things were perfect in her career and personal life. She loved being able to influence the lives' of others and her ability to spread positivity. She will surely be missed by all who loved her.

A service to honor her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2025 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Pastor Kris Geise officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Houston Congregational Christian Church Facilities/Maintenance Fund, 4883 Russia Houston Rd, Houston, OH 45333.
