CHARLES YOUNT Obituary

Charles Edward Yount—known affectionately to friends and family as Sonny, Charlie, Chuck, or Poppy—passed away on February 8, 2026, at Upper Valley Medical Center following an extended illness. He was a man of steadfast faith, dedicated service, and a spirited personality that touched everyone he met. Charles shared a remarkable 63 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Beverly Fogt Yount who survives. He is also survived by his devoted daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) Yount Hanes (Rick).

Charles was born to the late Everett and Bernice (Antonides) Yount. He is survived by his sister, Marcile Yount Feitshans (Bob) , and was preceded in death by his sister, Velma Mae Yount Pitman (Jim). Poppy took immense pride in his role as a grandfather, leaving behind a legacy of love and guidance for his grandchildren: Luke Hanes, Josh Hanes (Savannah), and Katherine Hanes.

A proud veteran, Charles served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps, carrying the values of honor and discipline with him throughout his life. Above all, he was known as someone who truly liked to help people, always ready to lend a hand to a neighbor or friend with his friendly smile. His commitment to his community was evident through his long-standing memberships. He was a devoted member of the Congregational Christian United Church of Christ in Piqua, where he served as a Deacon and sang in the choir.

Chuck was a 64-year member of the Elks Lodge, where he was a familiar face on the bowling lanes as a member of their team. He enjoyed playing Bingo at the Miami County YMCA Piqua branch. A graduate of Newton High School, Charles was a lifelong enthusiast of local sports, dedicated to the Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Bengals, and Ohio State Buckeyes. He had a deep love for travel, often visiting Myrtle Beach, quit side of the Smoky's in Tennessee, Florida, and California. Whether he was singing in the choir, rolling a strike, or traveling, Charles approached life with a steady heart and a loyal spirit.

A family graveside service will be held with no public funeral or visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Charles and Beverly Yount Fund with The Edison Foundation to support student success and community growth.
