CHARLES ALEXANDER Obituary

Charles E. Alexander, 92, of Piqua, passed away Monday, June 5, 2023 at Garbry Ridge. He was born July 14, 1930 in Monroe, Michigan to the late Raleigh and Ida (LaBeau) Alexander. He married Lela E. Landis December 25, 1951 in Piqua; and she preceded him in death January 20, 2009.

Survivors include a daughter, Jackie (Martin) Pollock of Piqua; a son, Rob (Julie) Alexander of Piqua; five grandchildren, Shelly (Chris) Rittenhouse, Stacey (Donny) Widney, Bethany (Daniel) Hickman, Marty Pollock, Alex Pollock; eight great grandchildren, Myla, Wren, Cannon, Carter, Cayson, Wesley, Simon, Elliott; and his very special friend, Shirley Peterson. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Raleigh Alexander, Jr., Bill Alexander; and a daughter, Diane.

Mr. Alexander was a 1948 graduate of Piqua Central High School. He studied at the University of Toledo, Wright State University and Ohio State University. He was a long time member of Greene Street United Methodist Church where he served as a Trustee and as Advisor to the Trustees for several years, as well as the co-chair of the annual Christmas Market. Chuck worked for Alexander & Hines Builders from 1949 to 1971 then worked as a construction superintendent for Riverside Products until 1974. When the Upper Valley Joint Vocational School opened in 1975, he taught the Junior Year carpentry program until his retirement in 1995. He joined the Ohio National Guard in 1948 until the Guard was mobilized in 1951 where he served on active duty from 1951 to 1953. While serving in Germany he attended the 7th Army NCO Academy where he was the honor graduate. He completed his military service as a Master Sergeant and discharged in 1955. Additionally, he served as a member of the Springcreek Board of Education, the Miami County Board of Zoning Appeals and the Miami County Planning Commission. He was a Life member of the American Legion Post 184 and enjoyed playing golf as well as spending time with his family.

A funeral service to honor his life will begin at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Will Leasure officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery where full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
