Carole Ann Craft Barnhart, 84, of Piqua, passed away at 8:25 p.m. Friday, April 24, 2026 at StoryPoint Troy-Assisted Living & Memory Care. She was born January 29, 1942 in Cincinnati to the late Ira Luther and Alma Marie (Gampfer) Grant. She married Paul H. Craft, on July 24, 1965 and he preceded her in death on June 17, 2000. She is also preceded in death by her second husband, Harold E. Barnhart, who passed away on September 15, 2009.
Carole is survived by her two children, Amy E. Craft, a senior lead metallurgical engineer who works in Sidney and Brigadier General Paul G. Craft, U.S. Army (Ret.) and his wife Christina (Francis) Craft, one granddaughter, Katelyn (Craft) Rosborough and her husband Grant Rosborough, all of Piqua: she has four siblings, Shirley (Grant) Scrugham and her late husband Robert Scrugham, Linda Grant, Pam Grant and Robert Grant and his wife Wanda Grant; also numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Carole was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio and after high school attended Bethesda Nursing School in Cincinnati, where she was the President of her class. She went on and was a Registered Nurse in Cincinnati and after marrying Paul Craft, she moved to Piqua, Ohio. She continued full-time nursing, until the birth of their second child. She then continued nursing part-time in the community, working in nursing homes with other family members, rehabilitation centers for children, conducting insurance medical physicals and school physicals. She attained her insurance license, working alongside her husband Paul Craft, and kept the financials for his successful local insurance agency, Craft-Middleton Insurance. She and Paul loved to dance and to travel with family and friends. A few years after Paul passed away, she married Harold (Barney) Barnhart, whose wife had also passed away and whom they would travel with as couples. She continued to travel with Barney and go on various cruises and excursions on land for several years. Throughout all adult years, she remained very close to her siblings, who met regularly for dinners and holidays and would go on occasional long trips together. She loved animals and flowers, especially red roses. She was active in her local church, Fletcher Community Church and in a long-standing ladies card club, where they played euchre. And whenever possible, once her only granddaughter Katelyn arrived in 1997, she would spoil her beyond measure. In less than 5 months, Carole's first great grandchild is due to come into the world.
