Bonnie M. Hawkins, 87, of Piqua, passed away at 3:44 a.m. Friday, December 19, 2025 at the Upper Valley Medical Center. She was born November 16, 1938 in West Liberty, Kentucky to the late Hatfield and Nora Alice (Cantrell) Gambill. She married Herbert L. Hawkins, Sr. May 17, 1958 in Piqua; and he preceded her in death November 27, 2019.
Survivors include four children, Connie (Tim) Barnhart of Sidney, Herbert Hawkins, Jr. of Troy, Randy (Darla) Hawkins of Piqua and Pamela Kimbrell of Piqua; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; her sister, Lola (Joe) White of Piqua; also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by several siblings.
Mrs. Hawkins was baptized by the late James Hembree from the Freewill Baptist Church in Bradford, Ohio. She was a wonderful homemaker most of her life, but her family that she cherished so much began when she worked at Piqua Poultry, where she met Herbert and they started their life together. She was affectionately known as “Nannie” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she had excellent cooking skills and made the best cookies. Bonnie loved to keep a garden, and appreciated the beautiful flowers she cared for. Bonnie and Herbert enjoyed sitting peacefully watching the hummingbirds in the garden. She loved when family and friends would stop by and she would visit with them, sometimes for hours and made sure they were fed and taken care of. She was the sweetest, most kind-hearted person that would give the shirt off her back without another thought. She led a simple life, but being Mamma and Nannie was all she needed. Her family would like to give special thanks to the home aides that became family, for their compassionate care for Bonnie.
A service to honor her life will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 26, 2025 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Keith Gebhart officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Guestbook condolences and expressions of sympathy, to be provided to the family, may be expressed through jamiesonandyannucci.com.
