Betty J. Wells, 86, of Piqua, died at 8:28 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2024 at the Piqua Manor Nursing Home. She was born May 10, 1937 in Dayton to the late Robert and Fern (Brown) Markley. She married Clifton E. Wells June 23, 1956 in Piqua; and he preceded her in death October 11, 2011.
Survivors include a daughter, Dee (Richard) Allen of Crestone, Colorado; four grandchildren, Amy (Pete) Doherty, Cherie (Jason) Boylan, Heather Wells, Mike Wells; two great grandchildren, Rocky Wells, Fox Doherty; a brother, Robert Markley of Piqua; and two sisters, Sally Murphey of Troy, and Katie Chambers of Queen Creek City, Arizona. She was preceded in death by a sister, Pat Markley; and two sons, Kenneth E. Wells, and Marvin “Rocky” Wells.
Mrs. Wells was a 1955 graduate of Piqua Central High School. She worked as the Executive Secretary to President Ray Loffer at Aerovent, Inc. before she retired in 1993. She then worked for Spinnaker Corporation. She was a member of St. Paul’s Church where she enjoyed singing with the choir and was a past member of St. Paris United Methodist Church where she had served as the Junior Choir Leader as well as sang in their adult choir. She enjoyed volunteering with the Piqua Compassion Network. Betty was a hardworking and very independent person. She prided herself as an amateur ornithologist and she also enjoyed tending to her beautiful flower gardens over the years.
A service to honor her life will begin at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2024 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Keith A. Gebhart officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00-1:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Church 500 N.
