Betty L. Smith, 83, of Piqua, passed away at 9:40 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Hospice of Miami County. She was born May 26, 1939 in Piqua to the late Melvin and Florence (Buckle) Martin. She married David L. Smith August 8, 1959 in Piqua and he preceded her in death April 20, 2011.
Betty is survived by two children, Kathy (Steve) Magill of Piqua, Scott (Lori) Smith of Marysville; six grandchildren, Lindsey (Mike) Walters, Brandon (Melissa) Young, Austin (Daniela) Young, Shawn (Jena) Magill, Steve (Lauren Crossley) Magill II, and Nicholas Smith; seven great grandchildren, Mckenly Magill, Maizie Magill, Layton Magill, Lincoln Walters, Vienna Walters, Lily Young, and Ivy Young; also many other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Piqua Central High School Class of 1957. Betty and David were the owners of the former Smith Greenhouse in Piqua for many years. After they sold the business, she worked in a few doctor's offices in Piqua. Betty was a longtime, active member of St. Paul Church in Piqua. Betty enjoyed traveling, and a had a close group of friends that she enjoyed spending time with and traveling with. She loved maintaining plants and flowers even after they sold the Greenhouse. Above all, Betty loved to spend time with her family and she will be truly missed.
A service to honor her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 30, 2023 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Pastor Roger Williams officiating. Burial will follow the service at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2023, also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County, 3230 N. County Road 25A, Troy, OH 45373.
