BETTY BARHORST Obituary

Betty Lou Barhorst, 86, of Piqua, died at 12:12 p.m. Tuesday, July 01, 2025 at Hospice of Miami County Inpatient Unit in Troy. She was born November 6, 1938 in Miami County to the late Edward Eugene and Mabel (Pence) Russell. She married Frank Barhorst August 17, 1957 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Piqua; he preceded her in death September 16, 2024.

Other survivors include a son, Tod (Kelli) Barhorst of Morehead, Kentucky; two daughters, Cindy Moeller of Vandalia, Connie (Jeff) Stephenson of Piqua, seven grandchildren, Kevin (Lara) Moeller, Daniel Moeller, Claire Barhorst, Paige (Adam) Hicks, Blake (Karrah) Barhorst, Jennifer (Kevin) Deaton, Colby (Abigayle) Stephenson; eleven great grandchildren, Luke, Alexa, Nicholas, Leah, Adam, Liam, Lincoln, Isabella, Kevin Jr., Braxtyn, Charlie; and  sister, Caroline Huffman. She was preceded in death by nine siblings, Rosemary Lemmon, Chester “Chet” Russell, Esther “Sis” Kiser, Evelyn Fair, Lester “Boy” Russell, Robert Russell, Charlotte “Babe” Millhoff, Patt Schaffner, Ronald Russell and grandson, Douglas Moeller.

Mrs. Barhorst was a graduate of Fairlawn High School, class of 1956.  Betty worked for Piqua National Bank as a book keeper, trust officer and teller. She also worked at Piqua Battery. She was a part of the lady golf group the “Nine Holers”. Betty was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Bengals and Reds. She enjoyed crocheting in her spare time. Betty loved taking care of her family and was a supporter of her grandchildren’s activities. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. Betty never missed a mass even if she had to watch it on her television if her health was not good.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday July 7, 2025 at St. Boniface Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Steven Shoup as the Celebrant. Burial will follow at Beechwood Cemetery, Lockington. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday at Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface Catholic Church 310 S. Downing St. Piqua, OH or Ohio Hospice of Miami County 3230 N. County RD. 25A Troy, OH 45373.
