Betty L. Liddy, 93, of Piqua, passed away at 2:08 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2023 at Hospice of Miami County. She was born April 28, 1930 in Darke County to the late Ernest A. and Cora V. (Boham) Apple. She married Robert J. Liddy Sr. November 21, 1950 at St. Mary Catholic Church, a marriage that would span 65 years. Bob preceded her in death January 23, 2015.
Betty is survived by six children, Robert (Sharon) Liddy Jr. of Beavercreek, Stephen Liddy of Piqua, William (Susan) Liddy of Piqua, Michael (Maureen) Liddy of Topeka, Kansas, Kathleen (Howard) Jones of Piqua, and Julie (Ben) Mutzner of Covington; twelve grandchildren, Josh Liddy, Lee Liddy, Janis (Dimitrius) McCoy, Kelly (Jon Wood) Liddy, Robert Liddy, Kristin (Nick) Pierre, Brooke Jones, Emma (Mike Ford) Donnelly, Karen (Sayfe) Tayeh, Eric (Nina) Liddy, and Jordan (Erin) Liddy, and Caryn (Brian) Pagel; numerous great grandchildren; her sister in law, Connie Apple of Versailles; also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Including her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Ross Donnelly; and nine siblings, Lester, Walter (Hazel), Norbert (Louise), James (Susie), and Ralph Apple, Annabel (Basil) Subler, Kathryn (John) Foster, June (Donald "Shorty") Keller, and Pauline (George) Berry.
Betty was a graduate of Piqua Central High School Class of 1949. She was a longtime, faithful member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. Betty was a terrific wife, mother, and grandmother, and devoted her time to raising her children and spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook, and made the best lemon cookies, chicken and noodles, and stuffing during the holidays. The family has fond memories of spending every weekend at Lake Loramie, and going out on the pontoon. The family takes comfort knowing that Betty and Bob are reunited, and she will truly be missed by all who loved her.
A service to honor Betty's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2023 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Steven Shoup officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., also at the funeral home.
