Bernice L. Lewis, 88, of Piqua, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 19, 2023 at Brookdale Assisted Living of Piqua surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 9, 1935 in St. Marys to the late Robert and Matilda (Buehler) Brandewie.
Survivors include four children, Christine (Dennis) Campbell of Troy, Mark (Tammy) Lewis of Troy, Jayne (Ron) Testa of Kettering, Ann (Steve) Nickolas of Cincinnati; ten grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Gail) Brandewie of Piqua; and three sisters, LaDonna Crist and Marilyn Hissong both of Piqua, Eunice Steuve of Dayton; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma “Pinky” Jordan.
Bernice was a 1953 graduate of Piqua Catholic High School. She retired from Piqua Catholic School following 28 years of service in the School Cafeteria including as the Head Cook and Manager. In addition to favorably impacting the students for so many years, she continued to volunteer countless hours in the school and community following her retirement. She was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church where she co-coordinated the Funeral Luncheons for many years. Additionally, she was a member of the YWCA of Piqua, Pins to Proms Mothers Club, and the Delta Sigma Phi Sorority. She enjoyed playing cards, cheering for the Cincinnati Reds, fellowship at the Knights of Columbus Hall, reading and especially spending time with her family. She will be remembered for being a wonderful mom, a good friend, and always pleasant and helpful. She will be missed by her loving family and friends who enjoyed her fun loving spirit.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2023 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Eric Bowman as the Celebrant. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to Piqua Catholic School, 502 W. North St. Piqua, OH 45356. Her family expresses appreciation to compassionate care givers at Brookdale Assisted Living, Troy Kettering Hospital, and EverHeart Hospice.
