Benjamin E. Schellenberg, 69, of Piqua, passed away unexpectedly at 8:45 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2024 at the Upper Valley Medical Center. He was born November 21, 1954 in Lima to the late Vernon Schellenberg and Dorothy (Burkholder) Roach. He lived with and was raised by his aunt and uncle, Viola and Leonard Schaffner. He married Michelle Y. Lines May 19, 1984 in Piqua; and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Gary (Jessica) Schellenberg of Grainger, Indiana, Steven (Katherine) McClay of Anna; a daughter, Enian (Jonathan) Phillips of Piqua; nine grandchildren, Alex, Nicholas, Anthony, Tyler, Spencer, Andrew, Samuel, Emma, Olivia; three sisters, Beth Dodovich of Akron, Jeannie Long of Covington, Pam (Mike) Thomas of Lima; and a sister-in-law, Linda Gillespie. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William Schellenberg, Charles Gillespie; and a sister Charlene Echols.
Ben was a 1973 graduate of Fairlawn High School. He worked at Urban Elsass for 32 years before he retired. He then worked as the Meat Ambassador and Greeter for Walmart for the last 17 years; a job he truly loved and enjoyed. He enjoyed giving his time to others, specifically when he played St. Nicholas at Piqua Catholic, volunteering at the Bethany Center, and working funeral luncheons for the Catholic Parishes. He loved to take the time to get to know anyone and everyone, and he never knew a stranger. He was a wonderful listener and was truly interested in anything anyone had to say. Most importantly, he adored his family, especially his grandchildren.
A service to honor his life will begin at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2024 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Thomas L. Bolte officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
