Barbara A. Monnin, 90, of Piqua, passed away at 12:35 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2026 at Ohio's Hospice of Miami County. She was born February 5, 1936 in Mendota, Illinois to the late Clarence and Helen (Frey) Francis. She married William Eldon Monnin on June 22, 1957 in Newport and he preceded her in death on August 15, 2005.
Barbara is survived by her four children, William C. Monnin of Chicago, Helen (Bruce) Willcox, Beth (Jody) Malone, and Jennifer Monnin, all of Piqua; four grandchildren, Laura Willcox, Nick Willcox, Quinton Malone, and Clayton Malone; three siblings, Marie (Richard) Henman of Newport, Shirley Powers of Evansville, Wisconsin, Susan Francis of Newport; her sister in law, June Francis of Piqua; and her longtime friends, Carol Hertel and Karen Stockstill; also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, James (Hilda) Francis and Larry (Dorothy) Francis; her sister, Judith Francis; her brother in law, Marlin Powers; and her sister in law Miyako Francis; and her special friend Georgia Wills.
Barbara was a graduate of Houston High School, and went on to receive her Teaching Certificate from the College of Mount Saint Joseph in 1956, and then her Bachelors and Masters in Teaching from the University of Dayton. She taught elementary grades in the Russia, Houston, and Covington School Districts for 25 years, and retired in 1985. She was a longtime, faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Barbara was a lifetime member of the AmVets Post 66 in Covington, and also a lifetime member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. Barbara was also a member of the Knights of St. John in Newport. Barbara was always willing to support organizations doing good in the world, and was a longtime supporter of the Sierra Club, National Wildlife Federation, the World Wildlife Federation and the Humane Society. In her free time, Barbara enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading and loving on her dear pets over the years.
A service to honor her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2026 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Eric Bowman officiating. Burial will follow at Miami Memorial Park in Covington. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., also on Friday at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Mission House, 950 Childrens Home Rd., Sidney, OH 45365, or to the Miami County Humane Society, 305 S.
