Avery C. Powell, 94, of Piqua passed away at 9:40 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2022 at Brookdale of Piqua. She was born January 28, 1928 in Floyd County, Kentucky to the late Greene and Nora (Shepherd) Castle. She married Warren Powell September 30, 1994 in Troy, and he preceded her in death January 22, 2012.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Jack) Littleton of Piqua and Susan Boryca of Northlake, Texas; seven grandchildren, Beth (Lynn) Maniaci, Tom Littleton, Chris (Jen) Boryca, Jenny (Adam) Arey, Rob (Jenelle) Bolton, Amber Bolton, and Aaron (Anne) Bolton; eleven great grandchildren; a son-in-law, J.C. Bolton; and a sister in law, Nancy Baldwin of Springfield. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Deborah Anne Ross and Carol Bolton; and a son in law, Walter Boryca.
Mrs. Powell was a graduate of Springfield High School Class of 1947, and went on to work as an LPN at Grandview Hospital, Stouder Hospital and Dettmer Hospital and retired after 25 years of caring service. Her biggest passion was tending to her garden and enjoying her pretty flowers. Avery liked to make Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls for her family. She cherished her family and friends and she will be deeply missed by those that loved her.
A graveside service to honor her life will be held privately at a later date at Forest Hill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being provided to the family through Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home.
