Ardith Etter, 88, of Piqua, more recently of Greenville, North Carolina passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home Monday, December 16, 2024. She was born September 30, 1936 in Middletown to the late Walter and Cora (Griffis) Werling. She married Ned B. Etter March 11, 1978 in Piqua, a union that would span 35 years; and he preceded her in death April 24, 2013.
Survivors include a daughter, Debbie Toomey of Greenville, North Carolina; a son, Rodney (Terri) Shefbuch of Live Oak, Florida; a stepdaughter, Jan Etter of Covington; four grandchildren, Justin Toomey, Randy Shefbuch, Krystal Fletcher, Brenda Hopson; and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by all six of her siblings; two stepchildren; and a grandson.
Mrs. Etter, more affectionately known as Ardie, was a woman of God who loved and served the Lord throughout her life. She and her late husband were long time members of Piqua Baptist Church as well as The Valley Church. She worked at Marsh Grocery for 31 years where she was honored for her years of dedication at her retirement. She and Ned later owned Etter Gospel and Novelty Shop before retiring to travel the country in their RV. They made yearly trips to visit their children and grandchildren in North Carolina and Florida. Playing cards, playing dominoes and enjoying walks with her family were some of their favorite activities while spending time with them. Ardie was an outstanding cook and baker and enjoyed making some of the best Buckeyes you’ve ever tasted. She enjoyed being in the kitchen and sharing her knowledge of her loved ones. After Ned passed, she spent the last 11 years living in North Carolina with her daughter and caretaker, Debbie. While there, she attended Covenant Church on Saturday evenings until her declining health kept her at home. She is now happy and healthy once more, smiling down on her family from Heaven. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Teresa Olsen and Missy Lovelace for their help in caring for Ardie for the last several years.
A service to honor her life will begin at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 23, 2024 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, Covington. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
