Albert Lee Tipps, 89, of Piqua, passed away peacefully a 10:37 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2022 in the comfort of his home with his daughter by his side. He was born December 24, 1932 in Rugby, North Dakota to the late William and Francis (Maxon) Tipps. He married Shirley A. Zoellers December 25, 1951 in Edwardsville, Illinois; and she preceded him in death August 28, 1999. They celebrated 49 years of marriage before her passing.
Survivors include three sons, Allen (Sandra) Tipps of Troy, Gary (Vicki) Tipps, Randy Tipps all of Piqua; one daughter, Debbie (Howard) Philipps of Piqua; eight grandchildren and many great grandchildren who loved him dearly; and one sister, Henrietta (Don) Miller of Bethalto, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his special companion of twenty-two years, Joan Burch; two brothers, Melvin Tipps, Gordon Tipps; and two sisters, Yvonne Hale and Geraldine Stephens.
Mr. Tipps attended Piqua City Schools through the 7th grade, left to work for Piqua Milling for over 31 years, and eventually went on to complete his GED in 2012 at the age of 79. He was very proud of his service in the United States Army during the Korean War which he served in the 7th Calvary Regiment/1st Cav. Division from 1949-1952. Albert was an avid golfer and enjoyed working for Echo Hill Golf Course during his retirement. In his younger years, he enjoyed spending his time restoring antique cars as well as metal detecting. He was a member of the American Legion Post #184 and the VFW Post 4874. He will be remembered for his work ethics, always being “the hardest worker in the room”, his fiery sprit, singing old tunes, dancing, pull tips, his flat hats and loving his family tremendously.
A graveside service to honor his life will begin at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Forest Hill Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Keith Gebhart officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County, Inc. 3230 N.
