Albert R. “Al” Mader, 94, of Troy, passed away peacefully at 2:45 a.m. Sunday, February 25, 2024 at StoryPoint in Troy. He was born October 10, 1929 in Houston to the late Raymond and Helen (Ford) Mader. He married Joy M. Deal March 26, 1949; they shared more than 70 years together; and she preceded him in death September 7, 2018.
Survivors include three children, Steve Mader, Connie Davis, Julie (David) Glover, all of Troy; eleven grandchildren: Stephanie Gross, Steven (Heather) Mader, David (Stephanie) Mader, Christy Mader, Danny (Katie) Mader, Tom (Wes) Mader, Chad (Poetry) Davis, Jeff (Angela) Davis, Jennifer (Andy) Kemmer, Austin Glover and Kellen Glover; nine great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Pam Mader of Troy; three sisters, Viola Deal, Edith Fellers, Shirley Swallow all of Piqua; a sister-in-law, Pat Mader of Troy; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Mader, Bill Mader; and a son, Dan Mader.
Al was a graduate of Piqua Central High School. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Troy. In 1966, he opened Mader Motor Mart which catered to any and all facets of automotive care and repair. He then opened another location of the shop in Tipp City. He also owned Bushong Auto Service and Mader Enterprises. He was a member of the Antioch Shriner’s, the Troy Masonic Lodge #34 F&AM, Troy Fish & Game, The Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks, Loyal Order of Moose, Fraternal Order of Eagles all in Troy. He loved cars and had a special talent in rebuilding carburetors. He enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife as well as camping in their motor home with their camping club. Additionally, he was highly supportive of his wife and her singing career and would follow her anywhere and everywhere to watch her sing. He was her biggest fan. Al was a dedicated and hardworking man who loved his family deeply. Al was very much a people person and enjoyed interacting with his customers. He never knew a stranger and always enjoyed making a new friend. He will be missed.
A service to honor his life will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2024 at the First Lutheran Church of Troy with Rev. Dr. Jess Abbot officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Troy. Visitation will be held from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home.
