WILLIAM D. "BILL" BARBER

William D. "Bill" Barber, 72, of Piqua passed peacefully Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 12:42 p.m. at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born March 14, 1944 in Columbus to the late William E. and Helen M. (Albright) Barber. He married C. Kathleen Flinn August 4, 1979 in Columbus and she survives.

Other survivors include a son Jason (Michelle) Barber; a daughter, Marinda (Brent) Stauffer; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers Jeff (Sonya) Barber, Joseph (Karen) Barber, Jon (Nancy) Barber; three sisters, Jody (Mike) Forman, Jill (Mike) Shaffer, Jacque (Jack) Kuhn; three brothers-in-law, Gary (Susan Muntean) Flinn, Richard (Marla) Flinn, William (Susan) Flinn and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill also had a longstanding friendship with Douglas Meyer with whom he shared his love of farming. He was preceded in death by a son William Charles Barber.

Mr. Barber was a 1962 graduate of Gahanna Lincoln High School then went on to serve proudly with the United States Air Force. He worked as a manager for the United Parcel Service where he retired from after 20 years of dedicated service. He was a member of Houston Congregational Christian Church where he served as the head of Deacons as well as the trustees. He was a member of the Shelby County Tractors Association, the Ohio Farm Bureau, and the International Harvester Collectors Club. He was also an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes as well as John Deere tractors. One of his proudest achievements was being able to purchase the family farm, and he loved the land as well as farming it. Bill was a family man who loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A service to honor his life will begin at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. James Manuel officiating. Burial will follow at Beechwood Cemetery in Lockington with full military honors provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Houston Congregational Christian Church, 4883 Russia-Houston Rd., Houston, OH 45333, the Houston Fire Department, 5005 Russia Houston Rd, Houston, OH 45333 or the Lockington Fire Department 10363 Museum Trail, Piqua, OH 45356.
