Obituary

R. BRUCE WHITED

R. Bruce Whited, 84, of Piqua, passed away at 4:25 p.m. Friday, October 12, 2018 at StoryPoint Troy surrounded by his family. He was born June 3, 1934 in Piqua to the late Robert J. “Ram” and Martha Jane (Hahn) Whited. He married Susan O. Batten who preceded him in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Julie Whited Heckman of North Potomac, Maryland; a son, Rob (Rossana) Whited II of Santa Monica, California; a son-in-law, Scott Hufford of Troy; four grandchildren, Erica (Nate) Schatz, Sarah Heckman, Gabriella Whited, Francesca Whited; three great grandchildren, Preston, Carter and Victoria Schatz; a brother. Brent Whited of Richmond, Indiana; and Bruce’s loving longtime companion, Roselyn “Rose” Staley and her family, Steve (Gail) Staley and their children, Drew Staley and Ryan (September) Staley and their children. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki S. Hufford and a sister, Peggy Miller.

Mr. Whited was a 1952 graduate of Piqua Central High School then served with the United States Navy during the Korean War. Upon his return, he graduated Barber College, Toledo and embarked on a successful career as a Barber that would span six decades. Additionally, he was known for going to area nursing facilities and volunteering his talent to provide residents haircuts. He was a member of Greene Street United Methodist Church where he served as an Usher for many years. He was active with the Warren Masonic Lodge F & AM where he served as Grand Master, the Shrine Temple, the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks and served on the City of Piqua Parks Board. He enjoyed hydroplaning, golf, the Piqua Indians athletics and positive initiatives in the community. He will be remembered for his friendship, humor and always embracing life. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and many friends.

A service to honor his life will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Greene Street United Methodist Church with Pastor Will Leasure and Chaplain Edward Ellis officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery where full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home where a Masonic service will be conducted at 7:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Piqua Community Foundation, P.
