GEORGE FRANKLIN CATHCART
George Franklin Cathcart, 92, of Piqua, Farmersville, and Tampa, Fla., died Thursday, February 24, 2011 at home in Tampa. He was born August 20, 1918 in Piqua to the late John Thomas and Hazel Faye (Stein) Cathcart. He married Vesta Marie Loffer March 18, 1940; she preceded him in death November 29, 1996.
Survivors include a son George Robert (Janice) Cathcart of Enon; three daughters Karen M. Cathcart of Tampa, Fla., Jacquelyn (Denny) Frey of Bluffton, and Judy Cathcart of Piqua; seven grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
Mr. Cathcart was a 1936 graduate of Piqua Central High School, earned his BSE degree from The Ohio State University in 1941; and retired from the French Oil Mill Machinery Co. in 1981. He was a Lieutenant in the United States Navy having served during World War II. He was a member of the Greene St. United Methodist Church, The Ohio State University Alumni Association for 43 years, the American Legion Post #165 of Miamisburg, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Ohio, Piqua Chapter #31, the Grand Lodge of F. & A. M. Ohio Warren Lodge #24, Order of the Eastern Star Pliades Chapter #298, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, and Shrinerï¿½s International. Additionally, he served as a Boy Scout Leader of Troop 7 and Advisor for Post 7 of Greene St. United Methodist Church, and was an advisor for Junior Achievement.
His family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Monday March 7, 2011 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 am Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Mohr officiating. Burial will follow at Miami Memorial Park, Covington.
