Obituary

FEDERICO T. VERCELES

Federico T. Verceles, 83, of Piqua, passed away at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday July 29, 2020 at his residence. He was born July 19, 1937 in Culver City, California to the late Federico and Sara (Trinidad) Verceles. He married Linda A. (Ritchey) DeSue June 30, 1990, and she survives.
Other survivors include children, Lynda (Richard) Snell, Lisa (Kevin) Kunioka, Fred K. (Sherryl) Verceles, Nick (Brandi) Verceles, Marlene (Steve) Christie, Jennifer (Patrick) Steele and John (Susie) DeSue; seventeen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Fred served twenty-four years in the United States Marine Corps with tours in Vietnam and Okinawa. He retired as a Sergeant Major. As part of the Boot Strap program, the military sent him to college where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Later, he earned a master’s degree in Human Services Management. He came to Piqua to teach at Edison Community College where he worked for over twenty years. Fred was the associate professor of the Industrial Management Program. Additionally, he provided area businesses with management training and advised incoming students. Upon retiring, Fred was able to follow his many interests. In Sarasota, Florida he was a bird naturalist for the local Audubon center. In both Piqua and Sarasota he taught tai chi and worked for Hospice in the veteran pinning programs. He was a member of the Piqua Kiwanis Club, serving as the scholarship chair.
A gathering and time to honor his life will be announced at a later date. Fred was establishing a scholarship at Edison Community College.
