Bernard J. “Barney” Simon, 77, of 505 Spotted Doe, Piqua, died on Monday, December 11, 2006 at 1:00 am in his residence. He was born in Russia on May 23, 1929 to the late Joseph and Opal (Monnier) Simon. He married Ruth A. Heckman on March 5, 1957 in Osgood; and she survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Gail (Scott) Reardon of Piqua; a son, Kent (Annette) Simon of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren, Kyle Reardon, Lindsey Reardon, Jack Simon, Grant Simon; and two sisters, Beatrice (Robert) Barlage of Newport, Joan Barga of Versailles. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Libby Simon, two brothers, Lloyd Simon, Clarence Simon; and two sisters, Claribel Eilerman, Pauline Simon.

Mr. Simon was a United States Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1993 from the Upper Valley Joint Vocational School. He was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Catholic War Veterans in Russia, Piqua American Legion Post #184, and Echo Hills Golf Club. He enjoyed golf, fishing, playing cards, and flea markets.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 15, 2006 at 11:30 am in St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Thomas J. Grilliot as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery where full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5:00-9:00 pm in the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home where a prayer service will be conducted at 5:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, 528 Broadway, Piqua, OH 45356. Condolences to the family may also be expressed through
