Obituary

BARBARA E. STEPHAN

On August 9, 2017, God welcomed Barbara Ellen Stephan into His arms when she passed away at the Kettering Medical Center. A lifelong resident of Piqua, Barbara Willcox was born on November 7, 1942, the first child of Leo and Ellen (Bergdoll) Willcox. She graduated from Piqua High School in 1960, and married Edmund R. Stephan on February 23, 1963 at St. Mary Church, where she worshipped throughout her life.

Barbara was a devoted mother to her three daughters. She sewed countless dance recital costumes, cheered at their soccer games and swim meets, and helped them with their homework. Her love and support carried her daughters to success in college, their careers and their lives.

Barbara especially enjoyed making Christmas a special time for her family. Every year, she turned her home into a Christmas palace, filled with the smell of freshly made Christmas caramels and smiling Santas on every shelf. She loved looking for special gifts for family and friends, and "Black Friday" shopping with her daughter and grandsons was a yearly event.

Barbara loved to travel, and with her husband Ed, she saw much of the world from Russia to the Caribbean to Alaska. She always enjoyed visiting her daughters in California and Seattle, but her favorite destination was Walt Disney World. Barbara loved all things Disney. As a travel agent for AAA Miami Valley, she enjoyed helping others realize their vacation dreams.

In addition to her family, Barbara was blessed by many lifelong friends. From weekend trips to Cincinnati to card club to Friday night dinner at the Piqua Knights of Columbus Council, you could count on Barbara to be there with a joke and a ready smile. She was always willing to go out of her way for her friends, and many in Piqua will feel her loss.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Edmund R. Stephan; her three daughters, Amy (Stephen) Strader of Bellevue, Washington, Elizabeth (Mike) Ferris of Springboro and Meghan (Ryan) Turner of Thousand Oaks, California; five beloved grandchildren, Stephan, Nicholas, Jacob, Jackson and Claudia; her two brothers Greg (Ginger) Willcox of Piqua and Jim (Ann) Willcox of Greenville, South Carolina; and her dog, Hank.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Monday, August 14, 2017 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Thomas L. Bolte as the Celebrant. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-4 pm Sunday at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home where a prayer service will be conducted at 1:00 pm. The family asks that you remember Barbara with donations to Lehman Catholic High School, 2400 St. Mary’s Ave., Sidney, OH 45365 or the American Diabetes Association, 2555 S. Dixie Dr., Suite 112, Dayton, OH 45409. Guestbook condolences and expressions of sympathy, to be provided to the family, may be expressed through jamiesonandyannucci.com.
